The United States Loses Almost 4 Million Private Sectors Jobs Between 2005 and 2010

Industries in the United States have purged 3,739,725 (2.8%) jobs between 2005 and 2010!

                                     

Oddly, the employment services industry has lost the most employment with a total loss of 803,817 jobs. The declines in employment services make up 8.8% percent of the total employment decline in US between 2005 and 2010. Just when employment services are needed the most, the industry is facing the largest drop in employment of all industries in the US.

2. Building foundation and exterior contractors (-399,398)
3. Residential building construction (-388,845)
4. Building finishing contractors (-339,248)
5. Building equipment contractors (-289,477)

 

The employment losses have not been concentrated in a few industries. In fact, most industries in United States have experienced a decline in employment from 2005 and 2010. Of the 318 industries (4-digit NAICS) with sufficient data reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in each year, 118 showed an escalation in the number employed, while 200 industry sectors accounting for employment declines during that time period.

3 of the 5 top growth industries are within the health care sector.

The States that have experienced the largest decline in employment are spread throughout the entire county. However, the mid-west has the largest representation with Michigan and Ohio making the top 5.

When you look at counties the have lost the largest percent of their employment base from 2005 to 2010, the Mid-Western Sates dominate the list. Southern Mid-Western counties are among those that are suffer the greatest loses in employment.

2. Perry County, Tennessee (-899, or -35.9%)
3. Clinton County, Ohio (-8,373, or -34.0%)
