Merced County Has Dropped In Owner-Occupied Residential Real Estate by 4.3%, As the 2010 Census Reports

Recently reported by the 2010 Census, Merced County, California decreased in total real estate dwellings by 15,325, or 22%, (since the 2000 census), during the same time, the State of California increased in total real estate dwellings by 1,465,532, or 11%.

Compared to the US, Merced County has a very high level of vacancy in residential housing. 8,056, or 9.6%, currently are unoccupied in Merced County, California. Between 2000 and 2010, owner-occupied units in Merced County have decreased by 4.3%. According to the 2010 Census, there were 41,196 (54.5%) owner-occupied units, while 34,446 (45.5%) residential units were being rented. Merced County has a greater amount of rentals than the State of California, which had 44.1% of residential units occupied by renters.

Compared to counties in the US, Merced County has a very high level of homes that are owned by minorities. 48.1% are owned and occupied by minorities in Merced County; while in the United States 21.7% and in the State of California 40.5% of homes are owned by minorities.
