Douglas County Has Sank in Residential Real Estate Ownership by 7.3%, From 2000 to 2010

The recent 2010 Census Bureau reports Douglas County, Colorado decreased in total real estate dwellings by 43,526, or 69%, since the 2000 Census. At the same time, the State of Colorado increased in housing units by 404,861, or 18%.

Measured against the US, Douglas County has a high amount of unoccupied residential properties. 4,841, or 4.5%, are currently vacant in Douglas County, Colorado. Within the 4,841 unoccupied properties, 32.4% are listed to be sold, while 22.9% are trying to be rented.

                                     

Between 2000 and 2010, owner-occupied units in Douglas County have decreased by 7.3%. According to the 2010 Census, there were 82,230 (80.6%) housing units occupied by owners, while 19,788 (19.4%) residential properties were being rented. Douglas County has a smaller amount of residential units rented than the State of Colorado, which saw 34.5% of units occupied by renters.

Compared to other counties in the United States, Douglas County has a medium level of residential properties that are minority-owned. 10.0% are minority-owned in Douglas County; at the same time the US as a whole had 21.7% and in the State of Colorado 17.2% of homes are owned by minorities.

Hispanic reported being renters the highest percent in Douglas County. 35.3% the Hispanic Census group reportedly occupied a rental.
