Putnam County Has Decreased in Real Estate Ownership by 4.1%, From 2000 to 2010

According to data from the 2010 Census, Putnam County, Florida decreased in number of dwellings by 3,467, or 10%, since 2000. During the same period, the State of Florida increased in residential properties by 1,686,633, or 19%.

Measured against the US, Putnam County has a high amount of unoccupied residential real estate. 7,928, or 21.2%, currently are unoccupied in Putnam County, Florida. Of the 7,928 unoccupied units, 11.5% are for sale, while 13.7% are listed in the rental market.

                                     

From 2000 to 2010, housing units occupied by owners in Putnam County have decreased by 4.1%. The 2010 Census reports there were 22,333 (75.9%) housing units occupied by owners, while 7,076 (24.1%) units were rented. Putnam County has a smaller amount of residential units rented than the State of Florida, which saw 32.6% of residential units occupied by renters.

When compared to all counties across the US, Putnam County has a high level of residential housing units that are owned by minorities. 16.0% of housing units are owned by minorities in Putnam County; while in the United States 21.7% and in the State of Florida 27.0% of residential properties are minority-owned.

Native Hawaiian is the group that rents the most often in Putnam County. 55.6% the Native Hawaiian Census group occupies a rented housing unit.
