St. Lucie County Has Moved Down in Ownership Residential Property by 3.6%, (2010 Census)

Recently reported by the 2010 Census, St. Lucie County, Florida decreased in total real estate dwellings by 45,767, or 50%, since the 2000 Census. At the same time, the State of Florida increased in residential properties by 1,686,633, or 19%.

Put side by side with the United States, St. Lucie County has a very high level of vacancy in residential real estate. 28,506, or 20.8%, of residential units are vacant in St. Lucie County, Florida. Among these 28,506 vacant housing units, 13.8% are for sale on the real estate market, while 17.6% are properties that are available for rent.

                                     

Owner-occupied units from 2000 to 2010 in St. Lucie County have decreased by 3.6%. By 2010, there were 80,766 (74.4%) housing units occupied by owners, while 27,757 (25.6%) housing units were being rented. St. Lucie County has a smaller amount of residential units rented than the State of Florida, which the Census reported had 32.6% of residential properties rented.

Compared to counties across the US, St. Lucie County has a high level of housing units that are minority-owned. 24.1% of properties are owned by minorities in St. Lucie County; while in the United States 21.7% and in the State of Florida 27.0% of housing units are minority-owned.

Black is the group that rents the most often in St. Lucie County. 44.1% the Black Census group reportedly occupied a rental.
