Cook County Has Climbed in Terms of Ownership of Real Estate by 0.3%, Since Reported Values in 2000

The 2010 Census reports Cook County, Illinois decreased in number of total housing units by 84,238, or 4%, since 2000. During the same period, the State of Illinois increased in housing units by 411,100, or 8%.

Measured against the United States, Cook County has a very high amount of unoccupied residential properties. 214,003, or 9.8%, are reported as unoccupied units in Cook County, Illinois. Within the 214,003 vacant housing units, 16.8% are listed for sale, while 41.0% are listed in the rental market.

                                     

Owner-occupied units from 2000 to 2010 in Cook County have increased by 0.3%. Reported in the 2010 Census, there were 1,143,857 (58.2%) units occupied by owners, while there were 822,499 (41.8%) housing units were leased. Cook County has a greater portion properties rented than the State of Illinois, which reportedly saw 32.5% of residential properties rented.
