Montgomery County Has Decayed in Housing Ownership by 0.3%, Since 2000

The recent 2010 Census Bureau reports Montgomery County, Illinois decreased in total number housing units by 555, or 4%, since 2000. During the same period, the State of Illinois increased in residential properties by 411,100, or 8%.

Measured against the US, Montgomery County has a low level of vacancy in residential real estate. 1,428, or 10.9%, currently are unoccupied in Montgomery County, Illinois. Within these 1,428 unoccupied properties, 12.8% are listed for sale, while 16.3% are available for rent.

                                     

Between 2000 and 2010, owner-occupied housing units in Montgomery County have decreased by 0.3%. The 2010 Census reports there were 9,105 (78.1%) residential properties occupied by owner, while 2,547 (21.9%) residential properties were being rented. Montgomery County has a smaller amount of residential units rented than the State of Illinois, which had 32.5% of the housing units occupied by renters.

When compared to other counties across the US, Montgomery County has a very low level of housing units that are minority-owned. 1.5% are owned by minorities in Montgomery County; while in the United States 21.7% and in the State of Illinois 20.9% of residential properties are minority-owned.

Black is the group that rents the most often in Montgomery County. 45.2% the Black Census group reported renting in the 2010 Census.
