Stephenson County Has Moved Down in Housing Ownership by 2.9%, As the 2010 Census Reports

The recent 2010 Census Bureau reports Stephenson County, Illinois decreased in number of total housing units by 368, or 2%, (since the 2000), while the State of Illinois increased in housing dwelling units by 411,100, or 8%.

Measured against the US, Stephenson County has a medium amount of unoccupied real estate units. 2,236, or 10.1%, have been reported as vacant in Stephenson County, Illinois. Of the 2,236 unoccupied properties, 15.8% are for sale on the real estate market, while 28.9% are listed in the rental market.

                                     

From 2000 to 2010, housing units occupied by owners in Stephenson County have decreased by 2.9%. According to the 2010 Census, there were 14,272 (71.9%) owner-occupied residential properties, while there were 5,573 (28.1%) residential properties were being rented. Stephenson County has a smaller amount of residential units rented than the State of Illinois, which reportedly had 32.5% of residential units occupied by renters.
