Bergen County Has Dropped in Ownership Residential Property by 1.1%, From 2000 to 2010, According to the 2010 Census

According to data from the 2010 Census, Bergen County, New Jersey decreased in number of total housing units by 12,568, or 4%, (since the 2000), while the State of New Jersey increased in residential properties by 243,287, or 7%.

When Measured against the US, Bergen County has a medium amount of vacant housing units. 16,658, or 4.7%, currently are unoccupied in Bergen County, New Jersey. Within these 16,658 unoccupied units, 16.0% are listed for sale, while 40.9% are listed in the rental market.

                                     

From 2000 to 2010, housing units occupied by owners in Bergen County have decreased by 1.1%. By 2010, there were 221,966 (66.1%) owner-occupied units, while 113,764 (33.9%) residential units were being rented. Bergen County has a smaller portion of rented units than the State of New Jersey, which saw 34.6% of residential properties rented.

When compared to all counties across the US, Bergen County has a high level of homes that are owned by minorities. 23.6% are minority-owned in Bergen County; while in the U.S. 21.7% and in the State of New Jersey 23.0% of residential housing units are owned by minorities.

Hispanic is the group that rents the most often in Bergen County. 56.1% the Hispanic Census group reportedly were renters in 2010.
