Lehigh County Has Declined in Terms of Ownership of Real Estate by 1.0%, As Reported in the 2010 Census

According to data from the 2010 Census, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania decreased in total real estate dwellings by 13,703, or 11%, since the 2000 Census-- the State of Pennsylvania increased in total real estate dwellings by 317,565, or 6%.

When Measured against the US, Lehigh County has a low level of vacancy in residential housing. 8,630, or 6.1%, currently are unoccupied in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. Among these 8,630 unoccupied properties, 18.9% are for sale on the real estate market, while 39.5% are listed for lease.

                                     

Between 2000 and 2010, owner-occupied units in Lehigh County have decreased by 1.0%. By 2010, there were 90,846 (67.8%) residential properties occupied by owner, while 43,137 (32.2%) residential properties were being rented. Lehigh County has a greater amount of rentals than the State of Pennsylvania, which the Census reported had 30.4% of residential units occupied by renters.

Compared to other counties in the United States, Lehigh County has a high level of housing units that are minority-owned. 12.8% of housing units are owned by minorities in Lehigh County; while US as a whole had 21.7% and in the State of Pennsylvania 11.3% of residential properties are minority-owned.
