Washington County Has Strengthened In Owner-Occupied Residential Real Estate by 1.5%, Since Reported Values in 2000

Recently reported by the 2010 Census, Washington County, Vermont decreased in number of dwellings by 2,297, or 8%, (since the 2000), while the State of Vermont increased in total real estate dwellings by 28,157, or 9%.

Compared against the United States, Washington County has a very low amount of unoccupied residential real estate. 4,914, or 16.4%, of properties are currently vacant in Washington County, Vermont. Broken down, of the 4,914 unoccupied units, 5.6% are listed for sale, while 12.0% are listed for lease.

                                     

Between 2000 and 2010, residential properties occupied by owners in Washington County have increased by 1.5%. In 2010, there were 17,540 (70.1%) residential properties occupied by owner, while 7,487 (29.9%) residential units were being rented. Washington County has a greater portion of rented units than the State of Vermont, which reportedly saw 29.3% of residential properties rented.

Compared to other counties in the United States, Washington County has a low level of owner-occupied units that are owned by minorities. 2.7% of housing units are owned and occupied by minorities in Washington County; while in the U.S. 21.7% and in the State of Vermont 2.7% of residential properties are minority-owned.

The outpatient care centers industry has brought the most jobs with a total of 684 employees finding new jobs in the industry. The employment growth in outpatient care centers makes up 20.9% percent of the total employment growth in Washington County, Vermont between the years of 2005 and 2010.
